New World (CD)

We wrote an album about war, exile and leaving home forever. Months later, all of it happened to us.

New World is about the fight for freedom, the horror of war, leaving home with no hope of coming back and crossing rough seas toward distant shores. Every word was written in 2021, before any of it was real for us.

Then it got real. During the crowdfunding, a tornado tore through the forest where we were camping and writing, flattened a third of it and wiped out our camp. Every one of us walked out unhurt, with every piece of gear intact. When the album was nearly finished, the whole band went down with covid. A month later Russia invaded Ukraine, we published an anti-war manifesto, and the two of us had to get out of the country fast. Two members quit. It looked like the end of Imperial Age.

We regrouped, recorded what was missing and released it in August 2022. It came out as the most upbeat, heaviest and most adventurous album we had ever made.

What you will hear:

• Legend of the Free - one of the fastest songs we have ever written, a straight shot of freedom
• The Wheel - our anti-war anthem, fast and grim, with a chorus made to be shouted back at the stage
• The Way is the Aim - a song about finding your own path, with Jane switching to rock vocals
• Shackles of Gold - pirates tearing through Tortuga in the name of liberty
• Call of the Towers - the centrepiece: 18 minutes and 12 seconds that run from acoustic tavern passages and an organ solo into three minutes of pure black metal

Our fans paid for this record before it existed. The New World crowdfunding raised $65,000, 188% of the goal.
